Our history
Established in 1986, HTI was created by business leaders as the UK’s first Leadership Centre for educationalists. Supported by CBI, DES and DTI together with Northern Foods, Reckitt & Colman, Rowntree Mackintosh and Courtaulds, HTI was founded as the charity ‘Headteachers into Industry’ offering teacher secondments into business. In 1996 we became HTI (Heads, Teachers & Industry) to emphasise the wider partnership. HTI Presidents to date have included Sir Michael Colman, Sir Nicholas Goodison, Sir John Bond and Lord Digby Jones. Our firm foundations and values have grown and become stronger over time with greater support from a much wider network of influential people.
